Nancy Atakan, Osman Dinc, Horasan, Nejat Sati, Ummuhan Yoruk: Summer Show
Summer Show brings together new works by five Pi Artworks artists Nancy Atakan, Osman Dinç, Horasan, Nejat Satı and Ümmühan Yörük.
Nancy Atakan's Scarves is a series of European styled silk headscarves which were first manufactured in Turkey in the 1930's that contain drawings of old photographs showing female members of Atakan's family wearing headscarves. Reflections of re-construction is a series of side-view minibus mirrors with images of 'Old' Istanbul going through an extensive architectural transformation transposed on them.
Osman Dinç's new minimalist iron sculptures bring many figural issues to the fore - gravity, balance, suitability and durability of material.
Horasan's collage and painting works are extracts from his major last solo show at Pi Artworks London. An exhibition that contained an imposing series of portrait paintings, titled only by the years of their subject's birth, that focused on the toll the passage of time takes on the human body.
Nejat Satı's new painting series Melancholy is the continuation of his dynamic, abstract series, which allude to the shattered panes of glass or an exploding on the surface.
Ümmühan Yörük's polyester self-portrait works draw on her interest in identity and self-questioning.
