Nezaket Ekici: Dimensions of Discovery
Past exhibition
Overview
Pi Artworks Istanbul is thrilled to present Nezaket Ekici’s solo exhibition Dimensions of Discovery. A series of performances and video works from 6 April - 29 June 2024.
Nezaket Ekici (b.1970) is a performance-based artist who lives and works in Germany. For her third solo exhibition with Pi Artworks, Dimensions of Discovery, Ekici will perform in the gallery for three consecutive days, with each day dedicated to a different live performance. A video documenting her seminal Pars Pro Toto performance will also remain on show in the gallery space until 29 June.
Intensive and task oriented, Ekici’s performances combine energy and humour as well as moments of pain and physical endurance. These 3 performances however, are based around sculptures. Sculpture either forms the central element of Ekici’s live happenings or they are created by the artist as a product of her performing. Having studied sculpture and painting at the Ludwig Maximilians-University and Fine Arts Academy Munich from 1994 - 2000, she has recently renewed her interest in sculpture as a means of returning to her artistic beginnings. Unlike many of the artist's past performances, which leave behind only relics, the Dimensions of Discovery works aim to consciously produce sculptures through process.
Constantly striving to create new works, integrate new perspectives and open up new levels of observation from her audiences, Dimensions of Discovery sees Ekici connect each of her consecutive performances both physically and conceptually. Each work, Essence, Cohesion Patterns and Panta Rhei exemplify different visual dimensions: time and space, transience and creation, and the everyday world vs our inner beliefs. With each work telling its own story, audiences will be able to experience Ekici for three days in sequence for the first time, with full physical commitment and high concentration resulting in new, unique sculptures as evidence of these happenings.
