Pi Artworks London is thrilled to present a newly commissioned exhibition of emerging female artists.
Featuring a range of young and emerging artists, and expanding across a variety of mediums, we have brought together seven creatives to reflect on the notion of belonging. From the intimate and nostalgic, to the surreal and confrontational, this show investigates how we establish a sense of self, and in the case of several of these artists, how we do this in a diasporic context. Equally, it looks to the notion of physical belonging and questions of memory and relationships when it comes to shaping identity.
With an often-humorous approach to the subject, these artists manage to straddle introspection and documentation. Paintings of family members and figures from the artist’s upbringing merge with found footage and imagery to create something larger than any of us as individuals. Friends and Family invites viewers into a space of shared recollection and private insight, bringing the implications of how one can ‘belong’ to the fore.
