Born in Mexico, G.T Pellizzi (1978) studied architecture at Cooper Union in New York, and it is this background that informs his sculptures, installations and painted works. His ‘snap line’ projects are particularly interesting, drawing on a technique used by carpenters and masons in building construction. The ink used here recalls the technique of Japanese builders, as most western builders would use powdered pigment. For Pellizzi, the action of the ‘snap’ and the resounding mark then made on the canvas represents a form of signal. They create a wavelength, much like a transmission, and this is only reiterated by the physical sound created by the process of ‘snapping’ the string.
