The use of one point perspective coupled with an acutely claustrophobic, crowded composition, makes John Greenwood’s paintings particularly special. They trap and ensnare viewers inside an absurdist, surreal, world of the artist’s own creation. Greenwood’s career began with his feature in the inaugural Young British Artists exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery, London 1992. He has since continued to create his paintings through probing his own subconscious and merging a range of influences; from Dutch still life paintings to general biology, jewellery and the work of 17th century Spanish painter Juan Sanchez de Cotán. Greenwood won the Cite Internationale Paris residency award while studying at the Royal College of Art in 1990 and has since featured in multiple solo and group exhibitions internationally.
