Working across painting, ceramics and performance, Gaia Fugazza interrogates the difficult relationship between humans and the natural environment. References to the transcendental, hybridity, primal woman and ecology underlie Fugazza’s multi-disciplinary practice, forming a wider reflection on ecofeminism and how we interact with the natural world. As an artist, she explores notions of autonomy and how all of our actions are inevitably linked to the environment. Here, we can perhaps see Fugazza’s use of natural materials and ambiguous subjects as a nod to this. Now living and working in London, Fugazza received her MA in fine art from Chelsea College of Arts in 2014. Since, she has had mul t ipl e successful sol o and group exhibitions, including at the Whitechapel Gallery, The Royal Academy, Gallleriapiú; Bologna, Haüsler Contemporary; Zurich and Spazio Cabinet, Milan.
