Describing her subjects as an ‘Architecture of emotion’, Parisian artist Maude Maris (b.1980) begins her creative process by casting small natural and manmade found objects. From here, she then groups the casts into ‘families’ and it is these ‘families’ that then form the subjects of her dreamlike paintings. Both surreal and tranquil, Maris’ work escapes categorisation as either still life or landscape, operating in a surreal in-between. Her recent major solo exhibitions include: Carnaire, Les Ateliers Vortex, Dijon, France (2020); Equinoxes, Camille Fournet, Paris (2019); Who Wants to Look at Somebody’s Face? Pi Artworks London, UK (2018).
