Gulay Semercioglu (b. 1968) is an Istanbul-based artist, best known for her use of coloured, silver and copper wire to create fields of kinetic impact and movement. She references the traditional Anatolian craft of Kilim weaving, as well as elevating traditional symbols of family, fertility, unity, health, gender and protection to the forefront of her craft. Through this, she offers clues and hints at insight into traditional, familial Anatolian culture. Semercioglu has exhibited 7 solo shows with Pi Artworks and has been featured in many international group exhibitions and is participating in LACMA’s ’Women defining Women’ (USA) show in 2023.
