"This site-specific installation from artist book I made weaves together the literary and visual elements of my practice."
In its form, it reconstructs a book, something intimate and personal into an installation. Through synthesizing poetry, drawing and photography, the work traverses the complex and equally diverse social, economic and political issues of the world today, exploring how through the act of combining different artistic mediums and the realities of different cultures we may transform the way in which we see things and encourage communication on a broader level. The project is the result of a decade-long research across the globe, from Amsterdam, Havana, Jakarta, Mexico, New York, Seoul, Japan, from China to the region of the Uyghur, from Turkey to the Middle East presenting pipeline politics, super corporations or the usage of natural resources. The project also investigates technological developments. Can art still communicate with an audience in the vast and intangible realm of the World Wide Web? This question is reflected on a formal level through the merging of traditional drawing and painting techniques with computerized means of image-making. The structure of the web, through its 'shrinking' effect on time and space is echoed in the installation and functions like a flow diagram.
